BOOK DESIGN

I came up with the idea for Suit when I was a kid using PowerPoint.

I developed the story and my artwork as I got older.

And kept critiquing my artistic style, still using the PowerPoint program.

Like most stories, my book started as rough thumbnail sketches.

Here is the progression of the first page of the book.

I would then crudely layout the page in PowerPoint.

Eventually after I had the idea laid out, I would start drawing the buildings and people.  At this point, I would then change the layout to fit the story...many times scrapping my initial thumbnail plans.  You can see below that the buildings and hobos are still in the final page, but in a way much different from the original sketch.

The final page that will be used in the book is many, many drafts after the original.  But, I used each version of the book to enhance the artwork and dialogue from the time before.

I started embracing my influences, finding my style, and going for a darker tone that better fit the story.
